The following applies only to North American non-licensed Two-Way Radios (FRS, Marine, CB Radio) and licensed Two-Way Radios (GMRS, LMR, DMR)
FRS Radios
Replacement antennas are NOT available for any FRS radio.
Cedar Electronics is a US-based company and as such we are required to ensure that our equipment complies with FCC Regulations. You cannot replace your FRS radio because we are complying with FCC Regulation 47 CFR 95.587(b)(1). If your FRS radio's antenna cover becomes compromised, whether it is damaged or missing entirely, you will need to replace the entire radio.
Other Handheld Radios
Most two-way radios allow antennas to be replaced with factory standard antennas, or sometimes alternative antennas that allow additional range and use case scenarios.
GMRS radios
- Handheld GMRS radios are not prohibited from replacing their antennas; TrailBlazer 250, 450, and 500 have replacement antennas available in Red, Orange, and Grey
- The larger High Gain Antenna allows for extra range
- The vehicle-mounted Road Trip Antenna Kit allows for connecting to a magnetic-mount antenna
- Use the Road Trip Antenna Kit’s SMA-Male to SO-239 adapter to connect your GMRS antenna to any antenna tuned for UHF (462MHz)
LMR radios
- Handheld LMR radios are not prohibited from replacing their antennas; however, the Cobra Performa 400 and 450 radios have rugged MIL-SPEC designs with fixed antennas
- If your Performa's antenna is damaged, you will need to replace the radio
DMR radios
- Handheld DMR radios are not prohibited from replacing their antennas.
- The Cobra Performa 600 has a rugged MIL-SPEC design with a fixed antenna; if your Performa 600’s antenna is damaged, you will need to replace the radio
- The Cobra Performa 850 Digital has a replaceable antenna
CB radios
- Handheld CB radios are not prohibited from replacing their antennas
- The HH RT 50 - Road Trip is a kit that comes with the HH 50 WX ST and an AT-MINI antenna that can tap the BNC adapter port on the radio directly
- Use a BNC to SO239 Adapter to connect your radio to full-size magnetic and fixed-mount CB antennas
- Use the Telescopic Antenna for All Handheld CB Radios for longer-range mobile communication. (Please note that this does not pick up weather radio signals)
Marine radios
- Marine radios are not prohibited from replacing their antennas; however, the BlueBound 150 has a fixed antenna, and the radio should be replaced if your antenna is damaged or missing
- All other models of BlueBound Handheld Radios have replacement VHF antennas
- Use an SMA-Female to SO239 adapter to connect to full-sized VHF antennas
