While our existing SmartCord options are compatible with standard 12v outlets found in most vehicles, some drivers of late model vehicles such as newer BMWs may find that their 12 volt outlet has slightly different dimensions than your typical outlet which may prevent them from fully engaging the SmartCord plug with the back of the receptacle. This can lead to intermittent power to the detector or a lack of power altogether. 

Drivers of vehicles that experience this problem might instead consider powering their devices with one of our optional Direct Wire kits found HERE or a third party solution such as a USB to 12v adapter if the vehicle is USB equipped. 

Please note: When considering a third party adapter such as the one at the link above, it is important that you confirm that the adapter matches the electrical specifications of your vehicles 12 volt outlet. While solutions like these work for most users, Cedar Electronics cannot guarantee performance with third party products.
