A diagram of each potential icon and segment display of the Performa 450 LCD.

Please see the below for explanations of each icon's meaning in both Standby and Menu mode (if they differ.) This applies only to the Performa 450.


Informational IconsThese icons may only display in Standby Mode (the mode the radio defaults to when first powered on), or they may appear in other modes, but do not appear in the Menu Mode.

  • 4-Segment Battery Level Indicator

    Displays in all modes.

    Indicates the battery level when in standby or charging.


  • Radio Clone

    Clone Mode Only

    Indicates that the radio is cloning. Waiting for clarification if this is incoming or outgoing.

  • Receive/TransmitStandby Mode Only
    • RX Receiving incoming audio
    • TX Transmitting outgoing audio

  • Signal Strength

    Standby Mode Only

    The strength of the inbound or outbound signal. Distance, obstructions, and battery level will all affect this measurement.


  • HILO

    Indicates if radio is in High or Low power mode.


  • SCAN

    The radio is scanning all of its available channels and privacy codes.


  • PROG

    Indicates that the radio is in the advanced programming menu, where desired frequencies are programmed.


  • Frequency (FREQ)

    Indicates that a frequency is being shown, rather than a privacy code. This normally does not appear in Standby Mode.


  • Code

    This will appear when the user is viewing the current privacy code. This normally does not appear in Standby Mode.


  • Privacy Code

    Additional information depending on the mode.

    • Standby Mode Displays the privacy code being utilized in addition to the main channel number.
    • Scanning Mode Will show that each frequency of each channel is also being scanned.
    • Monitoring Mode Will display the frequency of the channel that's being boosted.
    • Blank Indicates that no privacy code is being used.

  • Keypad Lock

    Indicates if the keypad has been locked, preventing accidental key presses other than PTT. The radio will also sound a tone if a button is pressed while the keypad lock is enabled.

    To disable the keypad lock, press and hold the padlock button (ESC) for 3 seconds until the icon disappears.


Menu Icons

These icons appear in both Standby Mode and Menu Mode, if your administrator has enabled you to change that setting from the radio's Menu Mode.


  • Keytones

    Radio makes audible tones when pressing buttons.

    • Standby Mode Indicates that the feature is enabled.
    • Menu Mode Indicates that Keytones is the present setting being changed.

  • VibrAlert®

    See manual page 11 for more information. You can download the manual from here.

    When enabled, VibrAlert® will alert you by vibrating the radio when an incoming transmission is received.

    • Standby Mode VibrAlert® feature is enabled.
    • Menu Mode Indicates that VibrAlert® is the present setting being changed.

  • VOX

    VOX allows hands-free voice-enabled transmissions.

    • Standby Mode Indicates if VOX is enabled.
    • Menu Mode Indicates the VOX setting is the present setting being changed.

  • ON OFF

    Menu-dependent, will tell you if the currently selected feature is enabled or disabled.


  • Channel Indicator

    A large, segmented display indicating the current channel that the radio is tuned to.

    • Standby Mode Indicates currently selected channel number.
    • Menu Mode
      1. Indicates the currently selected language for the voice prompts:
        1. English
        2. Spanish (Espanol)
        3. French (Français)
      2. Indicates the currently selected call tone when on the Call Tone menu (change tones with arrow keys)
      3. Indicates the currently selected backlight color:
        1. White
        2. Blue
        3. Red

  • User
    • Standby Mode (Along with Voice) Indicates that the Voice Prompts have been enabled.
    • Menu Mode
      • (Along with Voice) Indicates that Voice Prompts is the current setting being changed.
      • (Along with Channel) Indicates that Language is the current setting being changed.
      • (Without Voice/Channel) Indicates that Roger Beep is the current setting being changed.

  • Voice

    Indicates whether or not the radio will verbalize the latest action, such as channel number changes or settings changes.

    • Standby Mode (Along with User) Indicates that the Voice Prompts have been enabled.
    • Menu Mode (Along with User) Indicates that Voice Prompts is the current setting being changed.

  • Weather, Alert & Emergency Icons

    • Weather Sun and Clouds
    • Alert Caution Symbol (triangle and exclamation mark)
    • Emergency Exclamation Mark only


    Menu Mode

    • Weather Indicates the weather radio setting is currently being configured.
    • Alert Indicates the Weather Alarm setting is currently being configured.
    • Emergency will not appear in the Menu Mode


    Standby Mode

    Please see the table below for which icons to expect based on which settings are enabled/disabled.
