29 LX-SERIES

These models have a built-in SWR meter.  Proceed as follows:

Park at least 20 feet away from trees and buildings.  Close all doors, hood, and trunk. Choose the channel to check (channel 19 is recommended).On the radio, press the SWR/CAL button until the display says “CAL”. While holding the transmit button on the microphone, turn the SWR CAL knob until the meter reads to the CAL mark. The cal mark is located in the upper-right corner of the meter. Release the transmit button, then push the SWR/CAL button until the display says “SWR”. Press the transmit button on the microphone, and then read the SWR on the top scale of the meter.  The SWR should be below 3.  The lower, the better.


29-SERIES AND 148-SERIES

These models have a built-in SWR meter.  Proceed as follows:

Park at least 20 feet away from trees and buildings.  Close all doors, hood, and trunk. Choose the channel to check (channel 19 is recommended).Set the switch on the front panel to the CAL setting. While holding the transmit button on the microphone. adjust the CAL knob so that the needle goes all the way to the right, onto the CAL triangle in the upper-right corner of the meter. While still holding the transmit button, set the switch to the SWR position. Read the SWR on the meter.  The top scale of the meter is the SWR scale.  The SWR should be below 3.  The lower the better


ALL OTHER MODELS

You will need to purchase an SWR meter from Radio Shack or a local truck stop or CB dealer.  You will also need a short coax cable to connect the meter to the radio.  The cable should be 3 feet or shorter.  Follow the directions that come with the meter.  The SWR should be below 3.  The lower the better.
