VOX is our hands-free voice-activated circuit that allows you to communicate without the press of a button. This is useful for situations where you're unable to press the button. VOX can work both with and without a headset on most VOX-enabled models. The information provided in this article is general purpose and applies to any VOX-enabled Two-Way Radio.
For reliable operation, please try the following recommendations:
- Keep the microphone close to your mouth. The closer the better but still keep the microphone at least 5cm away if it's not a headset.
- Start with the VOX sensitivity high. If stray sounds activate the transmitter, turn down the VOX sensitivity.
- The sensitivity level you obtain in step 2 will determine how loud you must talk to initiate the VOX. The lower the sensitivity, the louder you must speak.
Please note:
- The VOX circuit takes approximately 1/2 second to turn on the transmitter.
- Because of this slight delay, it is normal to lose the first word of a transmission.
- If you blow into the microphone, etc., to activate the transmitter, then you will not lose the first word.
- If you pause too long when speaking, the VOX will turn off and must be activated again. Experiment with the timing on your model to understand how long you have between pausing and VOX cut-off.
